Psychology is the art and science of understanding and affecting
the ways humans think, feel, and behave. Since this is what
hypnosis is all about, a basic understanding of psychological
principles will help you to work more effectively. You
will be better able to determine which clients are appropriate
to work with, which should be referred to a mental health professional,
and how to work with a counselor who wants to utilize hypnosis
with their patients. When you are familiar with the fundamentals
of psychology, you can get results more quickly and stay within
the boundaries of “coaching” and “consulting.”
This class will clear up where the “counseling zone”
begins in order to avoid overstepping your qualifications.

Hartley Acero holds a
B.S. in Psychology and an M.A. in Behavioral Science - Fitness
and Human Performance from the University of Houston - Clear
Lake. Her graduate coursework included classes in
psychology, exercise physiology, and nutrition.
Additional training from the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research
includes LifeStyle Counselor certification in weight management,
stress management, and smoking cessation; “Making Weight
Loss Work” program training; fitness assessment training;
as well as the Institute’s Program Director Specialist
certification. She is also certified in the American Institute
of Preventive Medicine’s weight loss and smoking cessation
programs. As a hypnotist, she is certified by the IMDHA,
with a specialization in weight management. A Quantum
Focusing™ coach, she trained with Michael Ellner,
DD, MSH, C.Ht. She is a former wellness educator
for a hospital-based wellness facility and a former psychology
instructor for Austin Community College and Navarro College.
